SWF Tricks
2021 notice:
To avoid Adobe from blocking flash rendering, set your computer time to 2020 or earlier while decompiling and/or rendering swf files as a temporary fix.

Tutorials

This tutorial is for getting PNG images of puffles with puffle hats, though it can also be done without the hats. Some of the steps here continue the penguin outfits tutorial, and it is majorly based on the presented files and intro there, so be sure to read it first.

Required programs

Notes

The puffle used for this tutorial would be the Blue Puffle. The puffle hat used would be the Top Hat.

Player card puffles

  1. Save the following files as:
    item0.swf- hat's player card back
    item1.swf- puffle's paper
    item2.swf- hat's player card front
  2. Capture paper.swf using Kurst, with the values of 5 to seconds, 1 to frame rate, and X to content scale.
  3. Open the file with GIMP and crop the image. Follow the Missing parts section of the penguin outfits tutorial of part of the hat pops out of the screen.

In-game puffles

  1. Save the following files as:
    item0.swf- hat's room back
    item1.swf- puffle's sprite
    item2.swf- hat's room front
  2. Capture sprites.swf using Kurst, with the values of 5 to seconds, 1 to frame rate, and X to content scale.
  3. The result should be cut-off. See the Missing parts section of the penguin outfits tutorial to get the full version. You would probably need to export Frame 0.swf from the puffle's in-game SWf file in order to quickly open with SWiX.

Igloo puffles

  1. Save the following files:
  2. Open each one of the files with SWiX (you may need to load the puffle SWF's Frame 0.swf instead of the file instead to quickly load all needed resources).
  3. Pass them through the XML converter with its default values (you can decrease the new window's size for a quicker PNG generation).
  4. Save the new XML for each one of the files.
  5. Generate a PNG image using Kurst.
  6. Load all images as layers with GIMP (Ctrl+Alt+O), order them correctly and merge layers.
  7. Crop and save.
